Have you ever been in love?
Being in love is something most of us have experienced. We understand the beginning stages of love: giddiness, joy, and a desire to do anything to win the one we want over.
They’re going to the party tonight? Awesome, I might just show up there too!
They sent a text message? I need to wait at least 15 minutes before I can respond and when I do, I’ll use a smiley face!
They look sad today? I’ll write an encouraging note about how much they’re loved and leave it at their desk!
We truly do ridiculous, great things in the name of love.
But, how often do we believe God is pursuing us and desires to win us over?
How often are we even aware of the infinite ways He is showing us how He is deeply in love with us?
In month 8 of my Race, I became aware of how God pursues me. In Cambodia I met a woman who described her relationship with God similarly to a relationship with a significant other. In all honesty, at the time I thought she was crazy.
As I thought more of her head-over-heels, over-the-moon in love relationship with the Lord, I couldn’t help but yearn for that myself.
And with this yearning, my Father stepped in.
He began wooing me in big ways.
He led me to a new home with amazing roommates in Gainesville, Georgia. Although I signed up at the last second, He provided the funds to attend a leadership training program. When I had no means of income, He practically handed me a job I thought I’d have to wait years to obtain.
He began wooing me in the small, day-to-day moments.
As we walked through the woods, a perfectly auburn-tinted leaf would appear at my feet. When I didn’t know which ice cream to eat, He’d smile and say, “Definitely, you want the mint.” Those times all I needed was a hug, a friend would wrap me in their arms and let me know it everything was ok.
It was in these seemingly insignificant moments I saw the Gospel play out in my own life.
And all of this has shown me He is after not only my heart, but also yours.
When we become aware of how our Father is pursuing us in all these moments, our connection grows deeper and our relationship with Him becomes that much more real.
I want to challenge you to sit down with the Lord. Ask him, “What are the ways you are pursuing me? How can I include you in the small moments?”
I guarantee if you ask, you will receive because He is the lover of your soul and He is after your heart.
